Nanoscience Masters Research Programme

Nanofolio began in 2001 with an MSc in Nanoscale Science and Technology, as one of the first courses of its kind. The multidisciplinary need for nanoscience education was appreciated, and following demand the course was augmented with an MSc in Nanoelectronics and Nanomechanics in 2004. In 2006 an MSc in Nanomaterials for Nanoengineering was introduced and in 2004 the portfolio included its fourth course with an MSc course in Bionanotechnology. The first course has its own textbook, published by Wiley. It may well be the only course of its kind with its own textbook published by a major publishing company.

The courses have been developed jointly by the universities of Leeds and Sheffield. They provide a broad, interdisciplinary learning experience enabling single-discipline graduates to contribute effectively to the research, development and commercial exploitation of nanotechnology. With in excess of 30 students, they represent the UK's most successful nanotechnology training package.

The package contains a core set of modules, introducing concepts and methodologies. Additional modules are offered in nanoengineering, electronics and mechanics, and bio-nanomaterials, permitting you to focus on areas of interest or expertise, and leading to a degree titled to reflect your chosen area of specialisation.

Short courses and outreach are occasionally available.
