Julian is Chief Executive of the White Rose University Consortium and has overall responsibility for the strategy and operations of the organisation. His role includes representing White Rose at Board level on major projects, sitting on the White Rose Board, attending all Pro-Vice Chancellor meetings and maintaining and developing links with regional, national and international partners.

Julian has spent more than a decade in high level roles in Yorkshire. His experience in business, regional economic and academic spheres makes him well-equipped to lead White Rose. He is formerly an executive member of the EU-funded South Yorkshire Objective 1 Directorate, where he co-managed the Business and Enterprise team, and was responsible for investing over £125 million in initiatives to transform the economy of South Yorkshire.

Prior to this, Julian was General Manager of BioIncubator York Ltd, raising £1 million to create an organisation, which identified and selected bioscience projects, nurturing them through to start-up companies. He also spent eight years in biomedical research and led a research team within the pharmaceutical industry identifying and developing new product opportunities.
