Mixed Cinema – Interdisciplinary and Intercultural Approaches to Japanese Cinema

Academic Lead – Lucia Nagib  (Leeds)

The mixed cinema network looks at cinema as a fundamentally interdisciplinary area of study. By addressing Japanese cinema through its interdisciplinary and intercultural elements, this network constitutes a novel approach which will tackle the complexities of intermingled identities, aesthetics and social concerns cinema can reflect in a multiple world.
The Network addresses the following topics

  • Artistic and intercultural dialogue in the Japanese New Wave
  • Japanese widescreen cinema
  • Cinema and Japanese modernity

This network enhances the work of those involved, strengthening the ability to secure further funding for interdisciplinary research in the expanding areas of Japanese and world cinema studies.
